A little about our history …
The idea of creating an Ecological Center in Los Guatuzos was an initiative of the Association Friends of the Earth - Spain in 1996, and its operations started in 1999.
The initial idea of the Project was conceived as a space to promote scientific studies for the purposes of making experiments; over time, it was able to identify the big potential for ecotourism in the area, which coincided with the worldwide phenomenon of community-oriented tourism.
At present, the Center is managed and coordinated by Friends of the Earth - Spain.
Mission
To become a center where responsible tourism is practiced, promoting a harmonious interaction between visitors and nature through a touristic offer that involves different local actors, guaranteeing the development of quality service, safety and mutual trust
Vision
To obtain major acknowledgement as a touristic center in the field of its specialization as an ecotouristic center for its leadership, quality and excellence, encouraging a change of attitude in tourists and local actors, achieving a positive impact in the communities offering themselves as touristic destinations as to the quality of their services.
Inter-institutional Connection
The Ecological Center is embedded in a framework of inter-institutional cooperation, for its projects executed by Friends of the Earth, Terre des Hommes - Italy and other governmental organizations The Ecological Center Some activities carried out by the Center:
- Workshops for organic cocoa producers.
- Workshops for COMPROVISSA (a cooperative reproducing purples).
- Workshops to promote micro and small enterprises.
- Support to the medical attention by the Terre des Hommes team from Italy.
- Support to the Ecological Brigade - MARENA.
